A full and glowing 2016 “Super Duper” Supermoon rises in the night sky surrounded by dark clouds over Port Washington, WI. This moon was the closest, brightest, and biggest full Moon since January 26, 1948. A perigee or supermoon is on average 7% bigger and 16% brighter than an average full Moon. During an unusually close perigee like this one, though, the full Moon can be 12–14% larger than a full Moon at apogee (sometimes called a micromoon) and 30% brighter.
