Rocks and water lie beneath a towering stone cliff with a lighthouse perched atop at Split Rock in Two Harbors, MN. Originally known as Stony Point, the name Split Rock was first used by lobbyists when describing the location, and the name stuck. In early 1907, Congress appropriated $75,000 for a lighthouse and fog signal at Split Rock. Split Rock Lighthouse was officially commissioned in 1910.
